Considering a reverse mortgage?
RDI Financial Wellness offers Home Equity Conversion Mortgage (HECM) counseling to help homeowners understand their options and make informed financial decisions.
A HECM is a reverse mortgage insured by the Federal Housing Administration (FHA) that allows homeowners age 62 and older to access a portion of their home equity. Before applying, homeowners must complete counseling with a HUD certified HECM counselor.
What to Expect During Counseling
RDI's certified housing counselor provides independent, unbiased education on:
- How reverse mortgages work and eligibility requirements
- Loan costs, fees, and repayment obligations
- Homeowner responsibilities, including taxes, insurance, and maintenance
- Potential financial impacts and alternatives to reverse mortgages
Sessions typically last 60 to 90 minutes and can be completed by phone or other approved methods. Upon completion, homeowners receive a counseling certificate required by their lender.
